HOW TO BODYBOARD:
before you go out bodyboarding, tell someone and go with a friend or family member. you have to be a good swimmer and it would be good to ask the lifeguard or some other surfer about the conditions and dont forget sun protection!
Hold on to the bodyboard with one hand on the top rail and the elbow resting on the deck. The other hand should hold the bodyboard about 1/3 of the way down with the elbow up at a 50 degree angel, to have the leverage to hold the rail of the board in the wave. Head and chest should be up off the board, and a huge smile should be on your face. When catching a wave it is important to kick with your fins while pushing the front of the board down the face of the wave. As soon as you feel the wave moving you forward turn the board towards the shoulder of the wave (a way from the breaking part, good waves peel of cleanly left or right with a smooth face for you to ride) take your hand that is on the outside or closet to the beach move it 1/3 of the way down the board as described about and pull up on the rail to turn the board and keep the edge from sliding out, remembering to keep the head and chest up and smile for the camera.
-when you are not using your board its best to lie it flat on its rail. if board stands up it will put pressure on the pressure points on the tail and nose of your board.
-heat is a major problem to your board. NEVER let it lie out in the sun! Sun heats the small air pockets between the surface skin and the core causing the air to expand leading to bubbles and delamination. The heat can also cause the foam to swell while the skin stays tight giving your board a reverse rocker. It can also cause your deck to bubble and delaminate. so keep your board in a cool place or protect it with a board sock or bag.
-Salt can cause the foam to become hard and brittle. It is therefore wise to wash your board off with fresh water after each use.
-pets are one of your boards enemies... especially cats. the deck of your board is a great scratching post for them.
-both foam and slick of board can easily be damaged so keep away from sharp objects... courtney has already experience that lol!
-Do not force your board to bend, as this will not only create creases in the surfaces, but also cause the core cells to break, weakening the board.
-do not lend it to any one as something else other than bodyboarding. especially skim boarding, it scratches the slick.
-do not sit on the board, only if your out in the water.
